New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday released its first list of 124 candidates for the Karnataka Assembly elections, according to which former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been fielded from Varuna seat. As per the list, Pradesh Congress Committee chief DK Shivakumar will contest from his Kanakapura assembly constituency.
The party has fielded former deputy chief minister G Parameshwara from the Koratagere (SC) constituency. Former ministers KH Muniyappa and Priyank Kharge will contest from Devanahalli and Chittapur (SC) respectively. Priyank is the son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The party’s Central Election Committee approved the first list of candidates after a meeting in Delhi on 17 March. The committee was headed by Congress President Kharge. Rahul Gandhi was also present in the meeting.
Congress is the first party to release its list of candidates for the Karnataka Assembly elections. The Election Commission is yet to announce the schedule for the assembly elections in the southern state. The term of the current assembly in Karnataka will end in May. Before that there are elections in the state. The Congress is trying to snatch power from the Bharatiya Janata Party in the southern state.
