Polish Sports Minister Kamil Bortnichuk called the IOC’s decision on the possible participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic Games under a neutral flag as scandalous and did not rule out a boycott of the Games so as not to compete with athletes from the Russian Federation. The head of Poland’s sports department announced his position in an interview with radio station RMF FM.
“The boycott issue should always be relevant in our contacts with the IOC. Because the IOC is afraid of it,” RIA Novosti quotes Bortnichuk as saying.
A similar position had already been expressed by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
“It’s a scandal and a betrayal of the true spirit of sport,” said the Polish Prime Minister.
Recall that on March 28, the IOC recommended that international federations allow the departure of Russian athletes under a neutral flag, with the exception of team sports and athletes associated with the armed forces and law enforcement.
