Butina says Russia is ready to consider Trump’s asylum request

October 3, 2025

Moscow will consider former US President Donald Trump’s request for political asylum, if any, said Maria Butina, a member of the State Duma’s International Affairs Committee.

“If Trump asks for political asylum, then Russia will consider that request, of course. Can Russia Trade Trump? Russia is tired of its own citizens, whom we now defend, including in the context of the exchange. Many of them are incarcerated in the United States on completely trumped up charges. So we have someone to talk to before advancing ideas with Trump. I think the Americans should take care of Trump themselves,” Maria Butina said.

Previously, the Kremlin did not comment on reports of the arrest of former US leader Donald Trump. This was stated during a briefing by the President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov. According to him, Moscow has no right to interfere in the internal affairs of states, and the White House, by analogy, should not get involved in Russian internal affairs.
