Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said ahead of a military-political cabinet meeting that Israel’s enemies “will pay the price for every act of aggression against the Jewish state”.

“The internal debate in Israel will not prevent us from acting against them wherever and whenever necessary,” Netanyahu said as quoted by RIA Novosti.

An urgent meeting of the military-political cabinet with the participation of key ministers was called after a rocket attack from Lebanon. At least 34 rockets were fired into Israel from Lebanese territory on Thursday, according to the Israeli military. Five of them fell on Israeli territory, 25 were intercepted by air defense.

The northern territories of the country were attacked. Israel then retaliated against southern Lebanon. Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv has suspended all flights, airspace in the north of the country has been closed.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant ordered to be prepared for any possible response after the bombardment from Lebanese territory. Andrey Zeltyn, a senior lecturer at the HSE School of Oriental Studies, believes that the worsening situation on Israel’s northern border is associated with a deep political crisis in the country.
