The fire started at 4:30 a.m. at a truck stop that firefighters said contained flammable liquids. How clarifies NDR, there was a hydrogen sulphide leak. The entire territory of the warehouses is engulfed in fire. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (BBK) recommended city ​​dwellers to close windows and doors, as well as turn off ventilation systems to protect themselves from smoke. About 140 people were evacuated, informed Reuters, citing a police spokesperson. In addition, traffic on the Büchen-Hamburg railway line was interrupted due to the fire.

Firefighters initially described the situation as “extremely dangerous”, but later lowered the threat level.
