Aksyonov announced the cancellation of the Victory Day parade in Crimea. No decision has yet been made on Sevastopol

The authorities of Crimea and Sevastopol made a joint decision not to hold festive demonstrations on May 1, marches of the “Immortal Regiment” and a military parade on May 9, writing in the telegram channel the leader of the Crimea Sergey Aksyonov. The governor of Sevastopol, in turn, said that the decision to cancel the military parade in the city has not yet been taken.

“The authorities of the Republic of Crimea and the heroic city of Sevastopol made a joint decision not to hold festive demonstrations on May 1, marches of the Immortal Regiment and a military parade on May 9. This decision is due to security considerations,” Aksyonov quashed.

Despite the cancellation of festive events, according to Aksyonov, veterans will not be left without attention. “Representatives of local authorities will definitely visit them and congratulate them on Victory Day,” he added.

Later Governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev writing in the telegram channel that the decision to cancel the May 9 military parade in the city has not been taken yet.

“The day before, we held a joint headquarters with the Republic of Crimea with all law enforcement agencies and the Black Sea Fleet. Discussed festive events for Victory Day. The decision to cancel the May 9 military parade in Sevastopol has not been taken at this time,” he said.

According to him, consultations with the Ministry of Defense are currently underway. “The decision to hold the parade in Sevastopol is the prerogative of the military department,” the governor added.

The first region to cancel the military parade in 2023 was the Belgorod region. On April 5, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced that the May 9 parade in Belgorod had been canceled in order “not to provoke the enemy with a large accumulation of military equipment and personnel in the center of Belgorod”. The issue of fireworks, the procession of the “Immortal Regiment” and the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the battle of Prokhorov, the leader promised to discuss at the next meeting of the operational headquarters.

After Belgorod, the Victory Day military parade was canceled by the authorities of the Kursk region. According to Governor Roman Starovoit, the decision was made in conjunction with federal agencies for security reasons. On the eve of the Easter holidays, security measures have been reinforced in border areas. The security forces work hard.
