Italian Environment and Energy Minister Gilberto Pichetto-Fratin said his country had overcome its dependence on Russian gas in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper. It is reported by TASS.
According to him, previously the share of Russian gas in the Italian consumption system reached 40%. It is now down to just over 10%.
Piketto-Fratin said pipeline supply through the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline helped overcome dependence on Russian gas. Italy also receives gas from Algeria and Libya.
“We have basically overcome our dependence on Moscow,” he said.
At the same time, Pichetto-Fratin announced the need to obtain “real guarantees”, which will be the receipt of LNG by Italy in the required volumes.
