Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to star in the TV adaptation of Matt Haig’s bestselling novel, How to Stop Time. The actor will play the lead role of Tom Hazard. Thomas Alfredson, who directed Cumberbatch’s Get Out the Spy series, will direct the new project. Adapts Haig’s novel for the TV screen DS Moore (“Mary and George”)
The work is written at the crossroads of genres, is part love story, part spy thriller. The plot follows Tom (Cumberbatch), a seemingly ordinary person, but suffering from a rare disease called anageria. It allows him to stay alive for several centuries. Tom and other men/women live in fear, misunderstanding and persecution. Their life is a constant loss, when they see how their family members, friends, loved ones die, and they continue to be in an unchanged state. To survive, the “immortals” form a secret society to protect themselves and make clear rules. The first one Tom is about to break is never to fall in love.
The shooting of How to Stop Time is planned in Europe next year.
