Russian athletes entered the official tournament for the first time with the national flag

Russian athletes walk out with the national flag during the opening ceremony of the Bolivarian Games, according to the message from the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation.

The V Games of the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas (ALBA) take place in Venezuela from April 21 to 29. Russian athletes had the opportunity to participate in the official tournament with the national flag for the first time in a long time after a series of disqualifications and suspensions.

The Russian flag was carried by boxer Ivan Veryasov and tennis player Elizabeth Abrahamyan.

As reported, the opening ceremony of the Bolivarian Games was attended by Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin and Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov.


There are 48 athletes in the Russian team at the Bolivarian Games. They will compete in seven sports: boxing, beach volleyball, karate, table tennis, trampoline, weightlifting, rhythmic gymnastics.
