Against the Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, who is serving a term in a settlement in the Vladimir region, a case has been opened under the article on terrorism – he has been separated from the already existing case under of the article on extremism. This was announced by the politician himself during a court hearing.

“The investigator has informed me that a new terrorism case has been brought against me, and a military tribunal is going to try me on that,” Navalny said. Sota clarifies that we are talking about the charge of organizing a terrorist community. Earlier, the State Duma called for the recognition of the Anti-Corruption Fund founded by the politician as a terrorist organization.

On April 26, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow opened a hearing on the limitation of time for a politician to familiarize himself with the 196 volumes of the criminal case on extremism against him. The judge closed the process, reports Mediazona. The court ordered Navalny to familiarize himself with the case by May 5.

The case on Navalny’s accusation of having organized and financed an extremist organization was opened in October 2022. At the same time, Navalny himself reported that he was also accused of promoting terrorism and of to call.

Today Navalny was sent to a punishment cell for the 14th time – immediately after leaving, according to his Telegram channel.

“Yesterday another 15 days ended and I was sent back to the same ShIZO cell #11,” Navalny wrote. The politician did not give a reason. Before that, the reasons for his transfer to ShIZO included an unbuttoned button and a refusal to wash the fence.

According to him, he “broke the system”: before, after 15 days in a ShIZO, a detainee was given at least one day in an ordinary cell before being sent to a ShIZO for the following 15 days.

The disciplinary cell is distinguished by particularly harsh conditions of detention. Navalny described it as a two by three meter cell where he had to sit on an iron stool. He also said that in the ShIZO there is boiling water and a book, compared to a regular cell, where there is “coffee and two books”.

In June 2022, Navalny was transferred from the general regime colony of Pokrov to the strict regime colony of Melekhovo. Navalny and his supporters view criminal prosecutions as political.

In March 2023, supporters of the politician installed a copy of the ShIZO near the Louvre in Paris. Previously it was located at the Russian Embassy in Berlin. Since August 2022, Navalny has spent more than a hundred days in such a cell, which his lawyers say has led to a sharp deterioration in his state of health.

According to Navalny’s lawyer Vadim Kobzev, in early April Navalny was called to an ambulance due to aggravated stomach illness. The defender noted that Navalny’s diagnosis is still unknown. Kobzev said he would demand toxicological and radiological tests, because his client could receive toxic substances in small doses.
