Therapist Irina Andreeva in an interview with the portal “MedicForum” told how Russians can solve a common vision problem.
By a common vision problem, the specialist means “floating flies”.
“Basically, flies in the eyes are caused by accumulations of collagen fibers that drift in the vitreous body of the eye and cast shadows on the retina,” the doctor explained.
She also explained that a healthy vitreous body is a homogeneously transparent gel, but aging and unfavorable lifestyle, as well as stress, cause oxidative processes and protein glycation, which provoke collagen adhesion and degeneration of the vitreous body.
In addition, almost all people develop floaters as they age, Andreeva said, and they are especially likely in those who are nearsighted, have diabetes, or have had cataract surgery. In order to prevent such a problem for as long as possible, the doctor recommends that you follow a balanced diet.
Therefore, emphasis should be placed on vitamin C, lutein and omega-3 fatty acids. We should also consume enough water to keep the gel-like substance in our eyes hydrated and rested.
And finally, you need to sleep at least eight hours. Good sleep helps your eyes cope with daily stress and also keeps them working.
