World Test Championship: India’s top-order batsman Lokesh Rahul on Friday ruled himself out of the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia and will undergo thigh surgery on the advice of the medical team.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rahul has been ruled out indefinitely due to the injury he sustained against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this week. The WTC final will be played at The Oval in London from June 7.
Rahul said in a statement posted on his social media handle, “Extremely disappointed that I will not be able to go to The Oval with Team India next month. I will do whatever I can to wear the Indian team jersey again and help my country. That has always been my priority.
“After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it has been decided that I will undergo surgery on my thigh shortly,” he said.
Rahul said, “In the coming weeks, my full focus will be on rehabilitation and recovery. It was a difficult decision but I know it is the right decision to make a recovery.
So far four players have been out
Before Lokesh Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Jaspreet Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer have also been ruled out of the Test Championship. In such a situation, the troubles for the Indian team are increasing continuously.
