In the first round of the presidential elections in Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the country’s incumbent president and leader of the opposition, were recognized as the clear leaders.
Since none of the candidates won 50% of the votes, a second round of elections will be held in the near future, possibly as early as May 28. Only two key candidates will take part in these elections.
After processing 100% of the ballots, Erdogan leads with 49.35%, while Kılıçdaroğlu has 45%.
ATA Alliance candidate Sinan Ogan came in third with 5.22% of the vote; however, he has been eliminated from the list of candidates and is not eligible for a seat on the second ballot. As an opposition representative, Sinan Ogan is likely to support another candidate in the upcoming elections.
However, despite the difficulties that we are now facing, I am sure that he will cast his vote and send his supporters to elect Kılıçdaroğlu as President, said RuNews24.ru Apollinaria Sergeevna Avrutina, Director of the Center for Studies of Modern Turkey on Russian-Turkish Relations at St. Petersburg State University.
