Newspaper apologizes for ‘fake article’… What happened?

Roadan McCormick, a member of the editorial board of The Irish Times, said the media organization was “sorry” after it published an article on Thursday discussing “Irish women’s obsession with tanning, or fake tans”. .

The article was published as being written by a twenty-nine-year-old woman named Andriana Acosta Cortez, who is a health worker, and then it turns out that character doesn’t exist.

The article appeared to criticize the tendency of Irish women to sunbathe, thanks to devices and centers which are now available in many countries around the world, amid fears of its health effects.

On Friday, some questioned whether the “alleged writer” really existed or was just a fake personality, then the content of the article was removed from the site, with an explanation pointing to the existence of a ” verification process”.

A response published by the newspaper’s management said the media organization had been the victim of what was described as “deliberate falsification”, stating that “what happened will be taken seriously and it will not be there will be no leniency about it.”

The administration described what happened as a breakdown in trust between the newspaper and its readers, pointing out that “the publication of the article showed a gap in the standards of publication which will be subjected to more rigor in the coming period”.

The newspaper said it received the article in good faith and moved forward with its publication, and believed it was a young woman who had written it, then things changed and it turned out that she was a non-existent personality.
