Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova says German Chancellor Olaf Scholz crossed the line drawn by all the leaders of the two post-war Germanys by publicly shouting the Nazi salute during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Olaf Scholz crossed a clear line drawn before him by all the leaders of the two post-war Germanys: he publicly shouted the Nazi salute. Less than a week after the 78th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe,” Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
She explained that the slogan “Glory to Ukraine!” became the official salute of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists in 1939, and later a gesture in the form of raising the right hand and a replying shout “Glory to the heroes!” have been added to it.
Zakharova also pointed out that the poor education of Western elites does not absolve them of their responsibilities.
Earlier, some media released footage in which Olaf Scholz, against the backdrop of Volodymyr Zelensyy and former Belarusian presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, shouts the Nazi slogan “Glory to Ukraine!”.
Scholz also said that Germany, together with its partners, would try to hold Russia accountable for actions in Ukraine.
