On May 15, at an open meeting of the Security Council on the Ukraine humanitarian crisis, Chang Chun, the Chinese representative to the United Nations, made a speech urging the international community to accelerate a political solution to the Ukraine crisis. He noted that Ukraine is facing a grave humanitarian situation as the crisis continues. The international community should actively work to minimize the adverse humanitarian impact of the conflict and make joint efforts to reduce tensions.
Chang Chun said that first of all, every effort should be made to reduce the loss and suffering of civilians. Next the red line of nuclear security must be followed. Furthermore, nuclear weapons should not be used and nuclear war should not be waged. China urges relevant parties to exercise utmost discretion. He said China will continue to work with the international community to find a political solution to the Ukraine crisis.
