The music historian pointed out that negatives have permeated the art realm, such as misrepresenting the legacy of the greats, explaining this by saying, “If any of those greats were alive now, I think that ‘they would have strongly dismissed this question, because chanting is basically a sense of word and melody, so how can technology replace these things, how can we put Umm Kulthum in this form, which is a pyramid of pyramids of art !

He added, in his interview to ‘Sky News Arabia’: “I believe that legal measures must be taken by the Syndicate of Musical Professions to stop this distortion. Let the greats who left us their immortal works remain in their splendor” . , because it is like digging up graves.”

Abdel Rahman spoke about the concerts that used “hologram” technology and the difference between it and the use of artificial intelligence to evoke the voice of Umm Kulthum or artists in general, stating that “the hologram ” depends on the formal use and that there is no manipulation of sounds, melodies or words, but rather There will be an incarnation of the artists of the beautiful era on stage.

The music historian pointed out that it “gives a good impression on the viewer, and there is no objection to it and its use is considered positive, but the use of artificial intelligence technology and manipulation of sound is distortion, because sound, words and melodies should not be manipulated.”

Technological development is taking the singing world by storm

Regarding his opinion on the use of modern technologies in the world of singing, Ahmed Esmat, consultant in media technology and digital transformation, told Sky News Arabia: “The use of modern technologies such as artificial intelligence in the singing is not new. However, he pointed out that “it is assumed that the situation will be legalized from a moral point of view and that intellectual rights will be sought and protected”.

Esmat called for “the need to put conditions on the matter, because it is not necessary, for example, to organize concerts for Umm Kulthum and to use her voice while she sings mahraganat songs” .

He explained, “The real problem is that technological development has outpaced ethical, behavioral and legal guidelines. America and Europe are seeking to legalize these technologies, and there must be a role for the Arab region in this matter.

legal issue

Regarding the legal opinion in the case, lawyer Ayman Mahfouz told Sky News Arabia that only the heirs of Umm Kulthum or those who hold power of attorney among them have the right to exploit his name and his songs, and they have the right to object to the exploitation of his name by Amr Mustafa and to sue him.

Mahfouz said that “artistic creativity is the property of its author or his heirs, and there is also a law against copyright infringement and infringement”.

He pointed out that artistic works such as songs, videos or the like are subject to legal protection for a period of 50 years, even after the death of the creator or author of the creative works, including, of course, Umm Kulthum.

Mahfouz concluded by pointing out that Amr Mostafa has legal problems and that legal action can be taken against him, as the artistic heritage is not authorized to anyone and is subject to legal controls.
