EU supplies Ukraine with 220,000 artillery shells

– Published on:

EU countries have supplied Ukraine with 220,000 artillery shells as part of an initiative to increase Kiev’s ammunition supply, developed two months ago.

This was stated on Tuesday by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

According to Borrell, EU countries have also supplied Kiev with 1,300 missiles under the above program. Within a year, it is planned to supply Ukraine with one million units of ammunition.

“The next few days, weeks and months will be strategically decisive in the war in Ukraine,” Borrell reminded reporters after a meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels.

Governments of EU countries agreed on an ammunition supply program in March – after Kyiv announced the urgent need to increase the supply of artillery shells.

The EU plan, worth at least €2 billion, is the first time the European Union has been involved in funding large-scale joint procurement of ammunition.
