Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Representatives of the US and Chinese military leadership discussed security issues

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) spoke with the Chief of the Joint Staff of China’s Central Military Council on Thursday morning.

Gen. Charles Brown spoke with Gen. Liu Zhenli via video conference to discuss “a range of global and regional security issues,” Brown’s office said in a statement.

General Brown spoke with General Liu Zhenli via videoconference, the JCS said in a statement.

It was the first conversation since Brown took office after being confirmed by the Senate as the top military official in September, the report said.

Such contacts were interrupted after Nancy Pelosi, who was then Speaker of the House of Representatives, visited Taiwan in August 2022.

Last week, the Pentagon said the US was coordinating with Beijing to facilitate talks between the two countries’ militaries.

Last month, President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping agreed to resume such contacts at a summit in California.
