Matt Damon Says He’s ‘Always Looking’ to Make Another Bourne Film: ‘If You Have Anything, Let Us Know’

In a Parade magazine interview published by Deadline, Damon confirmed the $1.64 billion franchise is actively in development conversation, even as he heads into summer with Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.

Matt Damon says he is actively looking to make a sixth Bourne film — even as he heads into the summer carrying Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey — and has invited anyone with a workable story to come forward.

Speaking to Parade magazine in an interview confirmed by Deadline on Friday, Damon said: “We’re always looking to try to get another one of those because we loved it, everyone who worked on them. So there’s always some attempt going on to write, to come up with a new story.” He then added: “So if you have anything, let us know.”

The five-film franchise — spanning The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), The Bourne Legacy (2012, with Jeremy Renner in a parallel storyline), and Jason Bourne (2016) — has grossed over $1.64 billion globally. NBCUniversal acquired all Ludlum rights in 2025, with producer Frank Marshall continuing to oversee future development. No new Bourne project is currently greenlit, but Damon’s comments confirm the conversation remains live.

The remarks land at a busy moment for the actor. Damon stars as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, a major studio adaptation of Homer’s epic filmed entirely on IMAX cameras that opens July 17, 2026. The cast includes Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Charlize Theron as the nymph Calypso, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous. He is also in talks with Universal for an untitled project from directing duo Daniels (Everything Everywhere All At Once).

The appetite for Bourne remains real: the franchise gave American action cinema a grittier, post-9/11 template that influenced a generation of spy films, and Jason Bourne (2016), despite mixed reviews, still opened to $59 million domestically. The challenge has always been story — the three Paul Greengrass-directed entries concluded Bourne’s identity arc so completely that any continuation needs to substantially reinvent rather than retread.

Damon has been candid in previous interviews about the franchise’s creative ceiling. His renewed public enthusiasm — and his willingness to openly solicit pitches — is a more direct signal than Hollywood actors usually give about a dormant property.

Other stars have also been revisiting beloved franchise roles this week. Joan Cusack returned to voice Jessie in Toy Story 5 after more than a decade largely away from Los Angeles, explaining she had prioritised raising her sons in Chicago. Russell Crowe spoke candidly about why Gladiator II fell short of the original’s moral core at the Taormina Film Festival — a reminder that revisiting legacy franchises is never straightforward.
