Cygames has officially released the Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok demo across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, giving fans their first hands-on look at what is shaping up to be the biggest update the action RPG has received since its original launch in 2024. The surprise demo arrives just weeks before the expansion’s July 9 release date and showcases many of the systems that aim to transform Relink into a much larger and more ambitious experience.
The release marks a major milestone for Cygames, which is positioning Endless Ragnarok as far more than a traditional expansion. Alongside a brand-new story campaign, players can expect additional playable characters, new progression systems, expanded multiplayer options, enhanced combat mechanics, and a fresh endgame challenge designed for veteran captains seeking hundreds of hours of additional content. Insights from PlayStation’s hands-on preview suggest the update is closer to a full-scale evolution of the game than a standard DLC release.
Demo Offers Three Ways to Play
The newly available demo serves as an introduction for newcomers while also giving returning players an opportunity to test several of the expansion’s headline features. Players can access Story Mode, Quest Mode, and Tutorial Mode immediately after downloading the demo.
Story Mode allows players to experience an early section of Granblue Fantasy: Relink’s narrative, while Quest Mode supports both solo and multiplayer gameplay. cross-platform matchmaking has been enabled, allowing players across different systems to team up for battles. A total of four quests are included, with the final challenge unlocking after the first three are completed.
One of the most notable additions is the inclusion of Seofon as a playable demo character. The legendary Star Sword Sovereign was previously unavailable during earlier testing phases, making this the first opportunity for many players to try him before launch. Cygames has also implemented balancing changes and matchmaking improvements based on feedback gathered during the open beta period.
Summons Change Combat in a Big Way
Perhaps the most significant gameplay addition in Endless Ragnarok is the introduction of Summons, a new battle mechanic that dramatically expands combat possibilities.
According to Cygames and PlayStation’s preview, Summons function as powerful allies that can be called during high-level encounters, adding another layer of strategy to the game’s already fast-paced combat. Players will gain access to Summons after beginning the Endless Ragnarok storyline and obtaining their first summon companion. These abilities become available in Chaos-difficulty quests and higher-level content.
The new mechanic is designed to complement Relink’s signature cooperative combat system, where players chain attacks together and coordinate abilities to maximize damage output. Early impressions suggest Summons could become one of the expansion’s defining features for both solo and multiplayer play.
The Conflux Brings a New Endgame Experience
Endless Ragnarok also introduces The Conflux, a dedicated single-player endgame mode aimed at players looking for long-term progression beyond the main campaign.
The mode becomes available through a newly added side quest in Seedhollow and unlocks during Chapter 6 of the main story. Additional Conflux cycles become accessible as players advance through harder difficulty tiers and eventually progress through the Endless Ragnarok campaign itself.
PlayStation’s preview describes The Conflux as a major pillar of the expansion’s endgame strategy, offering repeatable challenges and progression opportunities that extend well beyond the base game’s content. Combined with the newly introduced Master Trait system, the mode is expected to significantly deepen character customization and build diversity.
Six New Playable Characters Join the Roster
Cygames is also expanding the game’s already extensive character lineup with six additional new playable heroes.
Returning fan favorites Beatrix and Eustace can be unlocked through Crewmate Card exchanges, while Gallanza and Maglielle require progression through specific Hard-difficulty content. Meanwhile, Fraux and Fediel are directly tied to the Endless Ragnarok story and will join players as they advance through the expansion.
The additions represent one of the largest roster expansions since Relink launched and are expected to further diversify team compositions across both cooperative and solo gameplay. Preview coverage highlighted Gallanza, Maglielle, Fediel, and Fraux as standout additions thanks to their unique combat styles and skill sets.
A Major Upgrade for Existing Players
Endless Ragnarok is not only bringing new content but also delivering a substantial overhaul to the core game itself.
Cygames has confirmed that Granblue Fantasy: Relink will receive a major update alongside the July 9 release date. Planned improvements include quality-of-life enhancements, gameplay rebalancing, new side quests, interface refinements, and broader accessibility improvements designed to improve the overall experience for both new and returning players.
The company plans to reveal complete patch notes and additional details during a livestream scheduled for July 8, one day before release.
Why Endless Ragnarok Matters
When Granblue Fantasy: Relink launched in 2024, it quickly became one of Cygames’ biggest global successes, earning praise within the JRPG fans community for its fast-paced combat and cooperative gameplay. The title helped redefine expectations for the modern action RPG genre.
Early previews and hands-on reports suggest the expansion is less of a conventional DLC package and more of a comprehensive evolution of the experience. Between the new story content, expanded roster, Summon system, Conflux endgame mode, and extensive gameplay improvements, Endless Ragnarok could provide exactly the type of long-term support fans have been requesting since launch.
With the demo now available and the full release set for July 9, players finally have a chance to see whether Cygames can deliver on its promise of taking this acclaimed fantasy RPG to even greater heights beneath the endless skies.
