Hint for Word 3 (Bottom-Left): Past participle of an ancient craft. Cloth made this way on a loom.

Hint for Word 4 (Bottom-Right): A geographic term. Rural England is divided into them; Tolkien borrowed the word for his most peaceful fictional territory.

Quordle #1641 Answers for July 23, 2026:

Top-Left: LADEN
Top-Right: EVICT
Bottom-Left: WOVEN
Bottom-Right: SHIRE

LADEN is the most approachable of the four. A common adjective with a clean consonant-vowel structure, it yields quickly to standard opening guesses. EVICT is today’s main trap: the V in the third position is rare enough in five-letter words that solvers who haven’t eliminated it early will burn extra guesses on the top-right board. WOVEN carries the same V challenge, this time landing in the fourth slot where it is even less expected. The result is a statistical twin-V hazard spread across two separate boards.

SHIRE is the vocabulary wildcard. As a British administrative term, it is well-known in the UK but less immediately front-of-mind for players who learned English elsewhere. Tolkien readers will have an advantage, though the spelling still requires confirming the H in position two and the I-R-E tail. Solvers who fixate on SHARE or SHINE without accounting for the interior H early may spend three or four guesses narrowing it down.

Today’s puzzle rates moderate difficulty overall. No genuinely obscure vocabulary, but the EVICT and WOVEN double-V placement is the kind of structural coincidence that costs streaks. Prioritise eliminating V’s position on one board before committing to a grid read on the other.
