Hint 1: Center letter G pulls most of the grid toward -ING endings. The majority of today’s seven-letter and six-letter answers are present-participle forms, so if a word feels right but lacks a G, it is not valid today.
Hint 2: The pangram EXPENDING means actively using up or consuming something, most commonly applied to money, energy, or resources. It is the only word in today’s grid that uses X, which distinguishes it from DEPENDING and DEEPENING, two other nine-letter answers that fall just short of pangram status because they never need the X.
Hint 3: The four shortest valid answers are DING, EDGE, GENE, and PING. Every four-letter word must contain G, which sharply narrows what qualifies.
