The Repeated C Is the Whole Problem
Yesterday’s answer also doubled a letter, but RUNNY put its two Ns side by side, which is the easy case. CLICK separates them. The C sits at position one and again at position four, with L and I in between.
That matters because of how solvers read a green tile. Once the C locks in the first square, it stops being a candidate for anything else. The board is telling you the letter is used, and the instinct is to go hunting for new letters rather than reusing a solved one. A doubled letter with a gap between the halves defeats that instinct in a way an adjacent pair never does.
The other trap is the ending. Wordle’s list is thick with words that finish in -ICK: BRICK, CHICK, CRICK, FLICK, PRICK, QUICK, SLICK, SNICK, STICK, THICK and TRICK all sit alongside today’s answer. Reaching _ _ I C K is not progress. It is a dozen candidates and three guesses.
Three Openers, Three Different Greens
We ran the popular starting words against CLICK, and the spread is unusual.
CRANE greens the C in first position. SLATE greens the L in second. RAISE greens the I in third. Three of the most-played openers each return exactly one green, in three different squares, and nothing else at all.
ADIEU also finds the I. STARE is the only one of the common five that comes back completely empty, because CLICK holds none of S, T, A, R or E.
A solver who opens with CRANE and follows with SLATE has C and L in the right places after two guesses. Add RAISE and the I lands too. That is a strong position, and it still leaves CLICK, CLIFF, CLING, CLINK and CLIMB in play.
Is Wordle #1893 Hard?
Easier than yesterday, harder than the word looks. The vocabulary is about as common as English gets, the openers cooperate, and the failure mode is narrow and specific: solvers who will not spend a second C.
Yesterday’s Wordle answer was RUNNY, which failed solvers on a crowded -UNNY ending. Today the crowd is at the other end of the word.
