Today’s pangram is NATIONHOOD.
The word breaks into two familiar components. NATION comes from Latin natio – birth, race, the group one is born into – which entered English through Old French in the fourteenth century. The suffix -HOOD comes from Old English had, meaning state, condition, or quality. HOOD attached to a noun creates an abstract concept: neighborhood, childhood, likelihood, brotherhood. It appears in written English as early as the ninth century. NATIONHOOD itself came into common use in the early nineteenth century, when the political concept of the nation-state was being formally defined by philosophers and jurists across Europe.
To find the pangram, the most direct route is to extend NATION with the available letters. The solver already has N, A, T, I, O, N in their mind. Add H, O, O, D – all available – and the word appears. The double-O is the only structural surprise. Solvers who get stuck on NATION should ask what the -HOOD suffix does to it, rather than cycling through letter combinations.

No E and no U is one of the rarer vowel configurations in the Spelling Bee. It rewards solvers who think in consonant clusters and familiar suffixes rather than vowel-heavy short words. NATIONHOOD rewards solvers who trust the -HOOD suffix enough to try it.
