Lamine Yamal had just pulled Barcelona level in the 79th minute, dragging the game back to 2-2, and Paris Saint-Germain needed two minutes to answer. Vitinha controlled the ball on his chest and fired in from just outside the area in the 81st, Fabian Ruiz tapped in Achraf Hakimi’s cross in the 86th, and the defending champions beat Barcelona 4-2 on Tuesday to stay top of the Champions League league phase on goal difference.

The result ended an 11-game winning run for Barcelona, the Associated Press reported. Desire Doue gave Paris the lead in the 38th minute, Xavi Espart equalized in the 55th, and Lucas Hernandez headed Paris back in front from a corner in the 72nd, setting up the final twenty minutes in which four of the game’s six goals arrived, according to Le Monde.

Liverpool matched Paris with a third straight win, and made it harder. Virgil van Dijk’s mistake let Georges Mikautadze score in the fourth minute, and Sergi Cardona made it 2-0 in the 29th, according to ESPN’s match report. Alexis Mac Allister’s flicked header reduced the deficit in the 36th, Ronald Araujo equalized in first-half stoppage time from 18-year-old Rio Ngumoha’s cross, and Mac Allister and Florian Wirtz scored in the 65th and 68th minutes, with Wirtz’s goal his first since April. Tani Oluwaseyi’s 87th-minute goal made the finish nervous but did not change the result.

Manchester City answered their 4-2 defeat at Paris six days earlier with a 5-1 win over AEK Athens at the Etihad. Elliot Anderson scored his first City goal from close range after an Enzo Fernandez free kick came back off the bar, Phil Foden scored a hat-trick and Rayan Cherki also scored, according to the club’s match report. Eastern Herald tracked City’s opening-night win at Porto in its first matchday report, and the club’s coverage is collected on its Manchester City page.

In Naples, Scott McTominay scored his first goals of the season, and his first since heart surgery, as Napoli beat Bodo/Glimt 4-3, according to the BBC. Matteo Politano scored inside the first minute, McTominay finished off a pass from Kevin De Bruyne in the 41st and headed in a Politano cross in the 75th, and an own goal from Bodo/Glimt’s Odin Bjortuft in the 88th extended the lead before the visitors pulled one back. ESPN said the win helped ease pressure on coach Max Allegri.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 at Sabah, Roma beat Slovan Bratislava 4-0 and PSV Eindhoven edged Porto 1-0. Stuttgart and Atletico Madrid drew 1-1, and Slavia Prague snatched a 2-2 draw at Fenerbahce with a 90th-minute equalizer after trailing 2-0. ESPN counted 40 goals across the nine matches.

The night leaves Paris and Liverpool on a perfect nine points, separated by goal difference. The matchday concludes on Wednesday, with Como hosting Manchester United in Italy.
