In the state of Maine (USA), another train carrying hazardous substances derailed and caught fire, reports RIA Novosti citing local lifeguards.
Apparently the incident happened near the town of Rockwood.
“A train carrying hazardous materials derailed and caught fire north of Rockwood,” the local emergency service said. Residents are asked to stay away from the scene of the incident. Data on dead and injured are not provided.
In the United States, derailments of trains, including those carrying hazardous substances, occur regularly. The most high-profile case was the case in February in the state of Ohio, where several dozen railcars containing dangerous chemicals caught fire and exploded.
Earlier, US media reported that over the past 10 years, the annual number of such accidents on the railway exceeds one thousand.
