Former MP Atik Ahmed shot live on TV in India

According to the newspaper, the murder took place on the evening of April 15 in the town of Prayagraj, when Atik and Ashraf were escorted by the police for a medical examination. The brothers spoke to the press, at which time three men approached them, who introduced themselves as journalists, and shot them with pistols.

According to sources from the Hindustan Times, the first interrogation of the detainees showed that they committed the murder to improve their status in the criminal environment.

From 1989 to 2004, Atik Ahmed was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh, from 1999 to 2003 he led the Apna Dal political party, from 2004 to 2009 he was a Member of Parliament in the lower house of parliament . In 2019, Atik was convicted of kidnapping lawyer Umesh Pal, who testified against him in the 2005 murder of an MP.

At the same time, in February 2023, Umesh Pal was shot dead near his home in Prayagraj, after which Atik Ahmed came under suspicion of organizing the murder of a lawyer. Atik’s brother, Ashraf, also figurative in the Umesh Pal murder case. In total, more than 100 criminal cases have been opened against Atik Ahmed.

Two weeks before his death, Atik Ahmed sought protection from the Supreme Court of India because, according to the ex-MP, government officials in Uttar Pradesh were directly threatening his life.

On April 13, Atik’s son Assad, who was wanted for the murder of Umesh Pal, died in a shootout with police.
