plant-based diet protects the human heart from diseases

May 25, 2023

Cardiologist Oleg Varfolomeev in an interview for the portal MedikForum said a plant-based diet promotes heart health.

According to the expert, such a diet lowers cholesterol and fat levels in the blood, thereby reducing clogging of the arteries and reducing the risk of heart and blood vessel disease.

“Tests have shown how vegetarian and vegan diets affect all types of cholesterol compared to omnivorous diets in which people continue to eat meat and dairy products,” the doctor said.

In addition, the cardiologist shared that the risk of cardiovascular disease in vegetarians and vegans was seven percent lower over five years than in those who eat everything. Although it was only a third of the effect of taking statins and drugs that can help lower cholesterol levels.

If a plant-based diet is combined with drugs, then the positive effect will only increase.
