“Part of the brain is affected, there is hemorrhage, a hematoma has formed. The condition is extremely serious,” the source said.
SHOT telegram channel complaints that the athlete has a quarter of the brain affected. “An intracerebral hematoma of the cerebral hemispheres develops. The acute phase is observed in the right frontal lobe with edema. White and gray matter lesions of the brain are preserved in all departments except the right frontal lobe,” the Telegram Channel’s message reads.
Meanwhile, TASS writing that Kostomarov is in stable condition, the doctors quickly reacted to the problem of the cerebral vessels. “Kostomarov had a problem with the brain vessels, but the doctors managed to quickly react to the situation. He is now in stable condition,” the source said.
On February 16, the head doctor of the Kommunarka Hospital, Denis Protsenko, spoke about the condition of the skater. According to Protsenko, Kostomarov suffered from “severe multi-organ failure with complete anuria – the absence of urinary function of the kidneys”, as well as lung and heart problems. In recent days, the athlete began to restore the function of the kidneys, he also began to breathe on his own. “But we are aware that the situation may change,” Protsenko said.
On January 10, Kostomarov was admitted to intensive care with pneumonia. He underwent an ECMO procedure for two weeks – oxygenation of the extracorporeal membrane, as a result of which the blood is saturated with oxygen. At the beginning of February, Kostomarov had both feet amputated and several fingers on his hands.
