The Russian Travel Awards are organized following the results of the past year and aim to develop and promote the domestic tourism and hotel industry. The list of finalist regions was compiled on the basis of the results of professional competitions and ratings, on the basis of proposals from associations and communities in the hotel industry.
“Today, huge opportunities are opening up to realize the tourism potential of the Upper Volga region,” Governor Igor Rudenya said. “We need to focus on a number of key areas. It is first of all the promotion of the region at the federal and regional levels. Equally important is the full support of small and medium enterprises operating in the hospitality industry. Currently, additional measures have been taken to support the tourism industry, both federal and regional.
During the award, representatives of the Tver region delegation defended two projects in front of a professional jury, consisting of experts from the Russian Union of the Tourism Industry, major media, national priorities of the NOA and representatives of automobile tourism associations in Russia.
For the Tver region, the title of the best region for autotourism sets ambitious goals to promote routes to small towns, form the cultural code of the region and improve tourist infrastructure. In 2022, thanks to the subsidy, new equipped sanitary areas and parking spaces appeared in 5 cities. Important automobile projects will be implemented in 2023: the Cross the Volga expedition, interregional routes with caravanners, a car rally along the sovereign route and the media intelligence project Tutu.ru.
More than 120 museum spaces in the Upper Volga region were also highly appreciated by the jury. Special mention was made of the projects implemented in Russia for the first time on the exchange of sites between the Federal Museums of Borodino and VIEM in Torzhok, the festival of the Imperial Palace in Tver “Catherine’s Mile” and the interactive approach excursions in the Tver Museum of local traditions. For example, the regions of Russia have benefited from the experience of the Tver region in co-financing the opening of modern museum spaces, in total more than 25 new sites have appeared in the region in recent years.
At the end of 2022, more than 2.6 million tourists visited the Upper Volga region, and over the past four years the total tourist flow in the region amounted to 9.5 million people. Compared to 2016, in 2022 the number of travelers visiting the Tver region doubled. The growth of indicators in the field of tourism has been facilitated, among other things, by the development of tourist routes, the creation of new display facilities and the advanced training of specialists in the tourist industry.
