Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The Americans discovered that the Chinese rover had been immobile for almost six months

American scientists have discovered why their Chinese colleagues remained silent for several months on the success of their very first rover, the Zhuzhong. frames, do from orbit, showed that the rover had been immobile for five months and had probably not come out of its winter “hibernation”.
China’s Zhuzhong rover, delivered to the planet in May 2021, was to go into sleep mode a year later to survive the Martian winter, and was to automatically wake up in December 2022 when light levels allow it to continue operating. However, experts noted that mission leaders have not reported on the condition of the device for a long time. South China Morning Post January 7 informed citing their sources that Earth never received a signal from the rover.
It was possible to find up-to-date information on the fate of the rover with the help of the American orbital probe Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, whose camera – High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) – photographed the landing site of the rover Chinese. Images released the day before show how the rover’s position has changed over the months. The published images are dated March 11, 2022, September 8, 2022 and February 7, 2023.
The HiRISE camera is often used to capture landing sites for Mars landing missions. Thus, by modifying the traces they leave, one can understand the nature and properties of the surface, as well as estimate the rate of dust deposition.
“These after-images show that the rover did not change position between September 8 and February 7,” the report said.
Unlike the Chinese Yutu rovers, the Zhuzhong rover does not have a source of radioisotopes to heat its instruments. Experts suggest that during the Martian winter, the rover’s solar panels, which are used to move and operate the instruments, could be covered in dust, preventing the rover from returning to work. It is known that the rover should turn on at temperatures above -15 degrees Celsius, as well as when the solar panels provide more than 140 watts of energy.
