Lahore: The protective bail granted to former Prime Minister of Pakistan and chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has been extended by three more days till March 27. After making personal appearance at the Lahore High Court (LHC), Imran has been granted protective bail to appear in five cases registered in Islamabad. Earlier in the day on Friday, the Islamabad High Court suspended his arrest warrant in the Toshakhana case. He had filed an application against the arrest warrant in the Islamabad High Court.
Khan appeared in the Lahore High Court amid tight security. There, the court of Justice Tariq Salim Shaikh and Justice Anwar Hussain, after hearing an application for extension of protective bail on his behalf, extended it for three days. Protective bail is given in connection with the appearance of the accused in the court of another province. Khan had to step down as prime minister in April last year following a no-confidence motion. He was granted protective bail by the court last week in eight terror-related cases and one civil case. Khan personally appeared in the court for bail.
In five cases filed in Islamabad, the court had earlier granted protective bail to former prime minister Khan till March 24. Similarly, he has been granted bail for 10 days (March 27) in three cases registered in Lahore. Khan’s counsel filed an affidavit in the court, as per the court’s order, that bail applications have been filed on his client’s behalf in Islamabad courts. Justice Shaikh said the court was extending Khan’s extension because his case was pending in other courts. If Khan doesn’t get bail there, you will have to face the case of filing false affidavit.
