The Kremlin has commented on the WSJ’s call to expel all Russian journalists from the United States

October 3, 2025

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on US newspaper The Wall Street Journal’s call to expel all Russian journalists from the United States in light of the arrest in Russia of its correspondent Evan Gershkovich.
Peskov said that all foreign journalists with valid accreditation continued their activities without facing restrictions.
“In this case, we are talking about activities under the cover of journalism, essentially espionage activities,” he said.
Earlier, Wall Street Journal editors called for the expulsion of the Russian ambassador and all Russian journalists from the United States.
Recall that on March 30 it became known that the FSB in Yekaterinburg arrested the American journalist Evan Gershkovich. The WSJ correspondent was suspected of having collected secret state documents on a Russian defense industry company.
Later, the Lefortovo court in Moscow arrested Gershkovich. The court chose a measure of restraint for the American journalist in the form of detention until May 29, 2023. The Gershkovich case is marked “top secret”. The WSJ correspondent does not acknowledge the spying allegations. On this charge (Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), he faces up to 20 years in prison. The publication of the Kremlin’s comments on the WSJ’s call to expel all Russian journalists from the United States
