German Interior Minister Feser threatened to deny visas to athletes from the Russian Federation

April 10, 2023

The head of the German Interior Ministry, Nancy Feser, is threatening to deny visas to Russian athletes if sports federations accept the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee to allow them to compete.

The head of the German Interior Ministry believes that states should not accept the admission of Russian athletes to competitions held on their territory. According to her, countries hosting major sporting events, through the issuance of visas, can control whether athletes from the Russian Federation can “really participate”.

Feather noted that when such international competitions are held in Germany, they will be run “appropriately”.

Earlier, the British boxing team announced that they will not participate in the IBA Men’s Boxing World Championship, which will be held in Uzbekistan. This decision was linked to the IBA’s decision to allow Russian athletes to compete under their own flag.
