Wildlife photographer Ekaterina Milyakhina managed to photograph a melanistic viper, which has a black color due to the high level of the enzyme melanin. This is quite difficult to do, as snakes are very cautious and don’t like drawing too much attention to themselves. The largest population of these vipers lives in Oryol Polesye National Park.

The bite of this species of snake poses a serious threat to human health and life, since the poison contains toxins that affect the functioning of internal organs and body systems as a whole.
