Roskomnadzor saw no reason to remove the Twitter block

April 10, 2023

Roskomnadzor sees no reason to remove the Twitter block. According to TASS, the department noted that the administration of the social network has not yet deleted 1,300 documents that the Russian authorities have recognized as prohibited. We are talking about child pornography, “drug and suicidal content”, calls to participate in riots, “messages from extremist organizations, fakes”, indicated the department.

Twitter was blocked in Russia in March 2022 for “discrimination against Russian media”. A few days ago, Twitter resumed showing official accounts of Russian departments in recommendations. After that, Anton Gorelkin, deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, suggested considering the possibility of removing the blocking of the social network, this proposal was supported by the Safe Internet League. According to Gorelkin, “if the social network is now aiming for neutrality, it is necessary to resume dialogue with it and continue to work within the framework of the legislation of the Russian Federation”. Also, Russian government agencies can use the social network as a platform to “explain Russia’s position to Western audiences.”

Earlier, Roskomnadzor’s press service reported that there is no reason to unblock Twitter in Russia.
