Today, the Saudi Cabinet reviewed developments regarding the agreement to resume relations with Iran. During its session chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Council dealt with the contents of the talks between the two countries, which were held in the Chinese capital, Beijing, in terms of agreement and coordination regarding the necessary steps to resume diplomatic and consular work between them, and stressing the importance of following up implementation, in a way that enhances Mutual trust, expands the scope of cooperation, and contributes to achieving security, stability and prosperity in the region. The Saudi technical team concerned with discussing mechanisms for reopening the Kingdom’s representations in Iran visited Tehran recently, in implementation of the joint tripartite agreement between Saudi Arabia, Iran and China, and in continuation of what the two sides agreed upon during the talks session between Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Foreign Minister, and his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdullahian, which It took place in Beijing last week. It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia and Iran announced on the tenth of last March that they had reached an agreement to resume diplomatic relations, reopen the embassies and representations of the two countries within a maximum period of two months, activate the security cooperation agreement between them, and the general agreement for cooperation in the field of economy, trade, investment, technology, science, culture, sports and youth. The agreement took place at the initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping to develop good neighborly relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
