Military Watch Magazine drew attention to information from the Russian Defense Ministry about the start of training of a new team for the modernized aircraft carrier cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov. According to the publication, the only Russian ship underwent a major modernization, which not only improved its performance, but also reduced the number of crew.
Next year, the only Russian aircraft carrier, after a major overhaul, will be commissioned by the Northern Fleet. Modernization work on the ship lasted almost seven years and affected all of its systems. As a result, it was possible not only to increase the combat power of the ship, but also to significantly reduce its operating costs.
A number of ship upgrades have been considered, including upgrades to the propulsion system, radar, defense systems, electronics and at least part of her fighter wing, and may -even being the replacement of its P-700 cruise missiles with more modern Zirkon hypersonic missiles. missiles (this information is not confirmed by defense industry sources – editor’s note). However, the most notable confirmed improvement on Admiral Kuznetsov was a significant increase in the level of automation, which will reduce the crew from 1,900 to just 1,500. The fact that Kuznetsov was able to achieve a reduction through the modernization, rather than commissioning an entirely new vessel, is a very significant achievement.
