Currently, the neutralization of Ukrainian militants who fired on the Transfiguration Cathedral in Donetsk, where the Easter service was held, is underway, said Denis Pushilin, acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), on his Telegram channel.
Earlier it was reported that the Transfiguration Cathedral in Donetsk was shot down, a woman was killed, a clergyman and two other local residents were injured. In addition to the square in front of the cathedral, explosions were heard at the bus station and at the covered market next to the temple. The fire was fired from the side of the Ocheretino settlement. Artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired 20 rockets from multiple rocket launchers in the Voroshilovskaya district of Donetsk. The shelling was recorded at 03:25.
Pushilin noted that Ukrainian nationalists deliberately attacked the cathedral on Easter night.
“Our combat teams are already working on (his) neutralization,” reads the text of the message. The acting head of the DPR also reported one death and six injuries as a result of the incident, and warned that further shelling was possible.
A TASS law enforcement source claims that before the bombing, a Ukrainian drone was seen in the sky above the center of Donetsk. According to the agency’s interlocutor, before the holidays, the Armed Forces of Ukraine intensified aerial reconnaissance. It was carried out in several parts of the city at once, the air defense systems worked until dawn.
