A freight train carrying hazardous materials derailed near Rockwood in the US state of Maine. Maine Governor Janet Mills said on Twitter on Saturday, “I have been informed of a train derailment in Somerset County. The Maine Forest Service and Maine DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) responded along with local emergency personnel. Officials on site have indicated that there is no threat to public health or safety.”
Rockwood Fire and Rescue announced the derailment via social media on Saturday and advised local residents to stay away. However, no orders were issued to evacuate people from there. According to US media reports, none of the hazardous materials on board the train caught fire, but a small forest fire broke out after the accident, which was brought under control later on Saturday. CBS said three railroad workers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
