The Brazilian side does not agree with Washington’s criticisms of the country’s stance on the Ukrainian conflict, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has said. His remarks are quoted by the G1 news portal.
Previously, White House spokesman John Kirby accused Brazil of ‘ignoring the facts’ on the conflict in Ukraine and sharing the position of the Russian Federation and China, ‘repeating propaganda’ .
The Minister said Kirby’s words were not true and he disagreed with such accusations. According to Vieira, he does not know what the reason for these statements was.
“I don’t know why he came to that conclusion. But I don’t agree,” the Brazilian foreign minister said.
Earlier, Lula da Silva suggested that Ukraine accept Crimea’s current status in order to end hostilities. The Brazilian head of state also expressed hope for the creation of a group of countries that could help resolve the Ukrainian conflict, and called the Russian-Ukrainian conflict a “family feud”.
He called on other countries to act as mediators for the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, and noted that Brazil and China are already ready to do so. According to him, the main criterion for mediation is the reluctance of the state to support the conflict. At the same time, according to him, it is first necessary to convince the countries which supply arms to the conflict zone to stop doing so.
