The closing ceremony took place at the Palais des Sports de Glace. Thus, the 88th Northern Festival and the 63rd Northern Student Festival came to an end. The ceremony was attended by the head of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis. This was reported in the press service of the regional Ministry of Information Policy.
The Governor noted that the Polar Olympics bring together thousands of people each year and are a true celebration of friendship. According to him, more than 1,800 athletes from 300 cities and 60 regions of our country took part in the Murmansk Ski Marathon alone.
Traditionally, during the closing ceremony, there was a parade of sports that were presented in the competitive program. Among them: hockey, skiing, figure skating, snowboarding, biathlon, rugby in the snow and others.
The head of the region noted the high level of training of athletes and competitions. He also expressed hope that the traditions of the Polar Olympics will multiply, noting the contribution of coaches and mentors to athletes.
Also during the ceremony, Andrei Chibis, on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Physical Culture of the Russian Federation by the coach of the highest category, Vladimir Shein.
Absolute champions cups were awarded to the winners of the Murmansk Ski Marathon Andrey Zarodov and Ekaterina Buryanina. Nikolai and Tatyana Yurievs won two more cups for victory in national sports.
After the solemn part, the guests were treated to a concert program and the symbolic extinction of the fire of the Polar Olympics.
