Cameron Green’s first IPL half-century and Arjun Tendulkar’s brilliant 20th over in pressure moments helped Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 14 runs in an IPL match on Tuesday to register their third consecutive win.

Mumbai Indians scored 192 runs for five wickets on the basis of aggressive innings of Green (64 not out in 40 balls) and Tilak Verma (37 runs in 17 balls). In response, Sunrisers could only manage 178 runs in 19.5 overs, their third defeat in five matches.

Mayank Agarwal scored 48 runs in 41 balls and Heinrich Klaasen scored 36 runs in 16 balls on this difficult pitch for Sunrisers. Klaasen’s innings had put Mumbai under pressure. The South African batsman scored 21 runs in one over off leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, including fours and sixes. Sunrisers needed 60 runs in the last five overs. Marco Jansen (13 runs in six balls) and Washington Sundar (10 runs in six balls) made the match exciting but Sundar had to bear the brunt of poor running.

Tendulkar, playing only his second match in the IPL, bowled two overs with the new ball and also bowled the last over when Sunrisers needed 20 runs. Tendulkar bowled a full length ball and also took a wicket. Earlier, apart from Green and Verma, captain Rohit Sharma scored 28 runs in 18 balls and Ishaan Kishan scored 38 runs in 31 balls for Mumbai.

The 20-year-old Verma scored 37 off 17 balls which included two fours and four sixes. Mumbai’s run rate slowed down in the middle overs but Verma’s innings helped them score well. Verma took 21 runs in the 15th over including two consecutive sixes off Marco Jansen. In the next over, he hit leg-spinner Mayank Markandeya for a four at extra cover while hitting a six off the next ball with a sweep shot. 14 runs were scored in this over.

Green, on the other hand, took time to settle down initially but after Verma’s dismissal, he started opening up. Right-handed batsman Green hit T Natarajan for three consecutive fours and then hit a straight drive for six. 20 runs were scored in this over. Natarajan looted a lot of runs in the 20th over and scored 50 runs in his spell of four overs. Mumbai scored 62 runs in the last five overs.
