Kathmandu. Indian mountaineer Baljit Kaur, who went missing atop Camp 4 on Mount Annapurna, has been found and is alive. An organizer of the mountaineering expedition gave this information on Tuesday. Pioneer Adventure President Pasang Sherpa told that an aerial search team has located Baljit Kaur. He scaled the tenth highest peak in the world yesterday without the use of supplemental oxygen.
“We are making preparations to airlift him from the top of the high camp. According to the Sherpa, the aerial search party saw Baljeet descending alone towards Camp Char. Indian female mountaineer Baljeet, the record holder, was left alone below the summit of the peak. He could not be contacted by radio till this morning. Thereafter, an aerial search operation was launched this morning itself and ‘succeeded in sending a radio signal for immediate help’. According to the Sherpa, Baljit’s GPS location indicated that he had reached an altitude of 7,375 meters (24,193 ft). He climbed Mount Annapurna with two Sherpa guides at around 5.15 pm yesterday. At least three helicopters were pressed into service to locate Baljeet.
Meanwhile, efforts are still on to recover the body of 10-time Everest climber Noel Hanna from Northern Ireland, who breathed his last at Camp Four after returning from the summit last night. Base camp officials meanwhile said that The chances of finding Indian mountaineer Anurag Malu, who went missing yesterday after falling into a deep crevice from 6,000 meters while descending from Camp Char, are bleak. Anurag Malu was a resident of Kishangarh in Rajasthan.
