Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Bulgarian authorities announced Russian ‘intervention’ after ambassador’s remarks

The press service of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry announced the “intervention” of Ambassador Mitrofanova in the affairs of the country

IN <a target=”_blank” href=”https://mfa.bg/bg/news/37176″ rel=”nofollow noopener”>Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria considered Russian Ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova’s words about the Renaissance Party as “interference in the country’s affairs”.

When asked by a reporter who the ambassador would vote for if she was a Bulgarian citizen, Mitrofanova replied that she would vote “against all of them or for Kostadinov”. Kostadin Kostadinov is the leader of the Renaissance Party, whose members support maintaining good relations with Russia. Mitrofanova called the party’s position “absolutely pro-Bulgarian”.

The interview was published after the elections, but the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said it considered the ambassador’s statement “an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the country”, which “contradicts the Convention of Vienna on diplomatic relations”.
