The first session of the Rabat International African Documentary Film Festival, organized by the Sijilmassa Center for Audiovisual Studies and Research and the Presidency of the Mohammed V University, kicked off at the Mohammed V Theater in Rabat. The festival, which started yesterday and will continue until the 29th of this month, will be held under the slogan "The African documentary film is a lever for creativity and development" Within the activities "Rabat is the African Capital of Culture 2022". During the opening ceremony, the eight documentaries participating in the festival’s official competition were presented, which will compete for the festival’s three prizes: "Grand prize" And"Jury Prize"And"University Award for Creativity"and the participating films are "I will still be a photographer" by Ananias Leke Dago, W"Amica" To Antonio Spano, W"alive dead" Laila Al-Shuaibi, and "the final destination" To Osman Samasikou, W"Transit" Joel Acafou, W"20 years later" To Moussa Toure, and"summer bundle" By Salem Bilal W"Taxi, cinema and me" Peace Zambaligre. In the context, Ezz Al-Arab Al-Alawi, director of the Rabat International African Documentary Film Festival, said that this event is an opportunity to enhance the presence of the documentary film on the map of university knowledge and the academic field, explaining that this event will witness the establishment of the International African Federation of University Film Clubs. He pointed out that the festival aspires to create an added value that goes beyond spreading the joy of watching, through its work on training and exchanging experiences between professionals and documentary filmmakers, and establishing the pedagogical nature of the film training and teaching process within African universities. It is worth noting that during the opening ceremony, the veteran Moroccan director Ahmed El Maanouni, who is also an author, director of photography and producer, was honored. He presented many documentaries dealing with several issues related to the history of Morocco and the national memory.
