UN Secretary General António Guterres, speaking at a meeting of the Security Council, declared the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan.
“Hostilities must cease immediately,” António Guterres said in a statement to RIA Novosti.
The UN secretary-general stressed that “universal efforts are needed for peace” and called on the warring parties to stop the bloodshed and settle things at the negotiating table.
“I call on the parties to the conflict, Generals Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, as well as the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Reaction Force, to cease fire,” said António Guterres.
António Guterres said he was convinced that the Sudanese conflict “will not and should not be resolved on the battlefield”.
“The parties to the conflict must respect the 72-hour ceasefire brokered by the United States and agree to a definitive cessation of hostilities,” concluded the UN chief.
Previously, there were reports of the murder of an Egyptian diplomat in Sudan – the car of the deputy attache of the Egyptian embassy came under fire in Khartoum.
Remember that since April 15, Sudan has become a battlefield for the regular army and the rapid reaction forces. According to preliminary data, 600 people have already died in this clash.
