BMJ magazine made the TOP of the most harmful drinks for diabetes

October 2, 2025

The BMJ magazine compiled and published a rating of the most harmful drinks that are best avoided in diabetes.

I must say that the debate around this issue among scientists is quite serious. Sodas, fruit juices, milk and coffee are often cited as candidates.

In order to more accurately determine, the researchers conducted an experiment with people who have type 2 diabetes. In total, the data of more than 15 thousand people were studied, as well as all cases of death, the lifestyle of the experimental subjects and other information that allows us to understand more about their lifestyle.

Based on the results of the surveys and the study of the data obtained, it became known that drinks with added sugar and whole milk carry the greatest risk. Next came fruit juices, sweetened drinks, skim milk, tea, water, and coffee.

Thus, scientists have found that the highest risk of getting diabetes occurs when drinking sugar-sweetened drinks. With milk, everything is somewhat ambiguous.

The fact is that drinking whole and full-fat milk was associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality, while low-fat milk, on the contrary, reduced the risk of type 2 diabetes. Some scientists believe that the danger of all of the above drinks lies in the content of fructose, writes “MK” .
