WHO Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus said the global coronavirus pandemic can be considered over, but at the same time he noted that the virus persists and kills.
“COVID-19 no longer has public health emergency status. However, as we speak, thousands of people around the world are fighting for their lives in intensive care units and millions more continue to live with the consequences of the coronavirus. That the virus stays and continues to kill and also continues to mutate,” Ghebreyesus said.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Deputy Health Minister Alexei Kuznetsov, in response to a WHO statement, said the virus continues to circulate and preventive measures should be followed.
